SFA Sylvans set records, win 42nd annual Arkansas State Lumberjack Collegiate Championship

Stephen F. Austin State University's timbersports team, the Sylvans, placed first in the 42nd annual Arkansas State Lumberjack Collegiate Championship.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's timbersports team, the Sylvans, placed first in the 42nd annual Arkansas State Lumberjack Collegiate Championship. The team of 34 Lumberjacks competed against the University of Arkansas at Monticello, Louisiana Tech University, Southern Illinois University and Oklahoma State University in seven physical events over the first weekend of October.

The Lumberjacks won first place with 34 overall points, beating second place by 11 points. Over the past 10 collegiate competitions since 2015, the Sylvans have won nine. Besides winning six of the seven events this weekend, the Sylvans set the collegiate records in all three crosscut sawing events and tied the axe throwing record. With record-setting performances in more than half the events, the Sylvans will continue training for the Southern Forestry Conclave in March.
