Global biopharmaceutical CEOs response to reforms introduced in Germany

On 30 June, in response to reforms introudced in Germany, BCR Secretary General, and IFPMA Director General, Dr. David Reddy, said:

"The legislation introduced by the German government undermines the value of medical innovation, global competitiveness and patient access to new medicines. Pricing and reimbursement policies which fail to reflect the value that medicines and vaccines bring, negatively impact the availability of new medicines for patients and lead to reduced levels of investment in research and development.

At a time of intensifying global competition, governments must focus on putting in place policies that unlock the potential that innovative medicines have, to drive better health for patients, boost economic growth and strengthen health security.

The systemic undervaluing of innovative medicines and the proposed legislation being introduced in Germany has resulted in the U.S Government launching a Section 301 investigation to examine and address these practices.

The German Government should pause and engage constructively with industry to ensure that reforms reinforce - not undermine - Germany's position as a leading location for pharmaceutical innovation and investment".
