On Oct. 27, Mayor Mattie Parker, on behalf of the City of Fort Worth, proclaimed Nov. 15, 2026, as America Recycles Day in Fort Worth. Presented during the City Council work session, Mayor Parker was joined by Environmental Services Director Cody Whittenburg, department staff and community partners to represent Fort Worth's commitment to recycling.
The proclamation acknowledges how recycling helps conserve natural resources, reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills and turns used materials into new products. These efforts also support the local economy and help preserve resources for future generations. Dr. Whittenburg reemphasized the importance of recycling and highlighted the City's growing partnership with its community. The City of Fort Worth is proud of its extensive efforts to bring recycling education out of the office and into the neighborhoods.
To continue raising awareness about proper recycling in Fort Worth, the City of Fort Worth invites the community to celebrate America Recycles Day on Saturday, Nov. 14, at two locations: La Gran Plaza and Hulen Mall.
The events will feature recycling educational booths, collection trucks, live demonstrations, recycled art, crafts and interactive recycling displays. City partners, including WM, Republic Services, Keep Fort Worth Beautiful and others, will be available to share what happens to recyclable items beyond the curb. Residents can stop by and explore recycling-themed activities, talk with staff, learn practical ways to recycle correctly, find out which household materials are accepted for recycling in Fort Worth and discover how everyday items can be turned into new products after collection.
Throughout the month of November, the Environmental Services, Park & Recreation and Fort Worth Public Library departments are hosting recycling-themed events for the entire family. This includes story times, recycled arts and crafts, recycling displays and adult and youth games/activities. For a full list of educational events and activities, visit fortworthtexas.gov/america-recycles-day.
Recycling correctly starts with knowing what materials are accepted and preparing them properly. Items placed in the blue recycling cart should be empty, clean and dry. Plastic bags should not go in the blue recycling cart. Whether you are already familiar with recycling or want to learn the basics, America Recycles Day is an opportunity to explore recycling activities and discover practical ways to recycle correctly at home.
