City Council Special Meeting to Appoint District 2 Councilmember

On Monday, April 6 at 9:00 a.m. the Colorado Springs City Council will conduct a Special Meeting to appoint a new Councilmember to the vacant District 2 Seat. Interested candidates filled out applications from March 12 to March 26. Following the closure of the application window, Councilmembers reviewed the candidates and recommended their top choices to move on to the Special Meeting for consideration.

District 2 Candidates for Consideration:

  • Polly Cambron
  • Cindy Carter
  • Ken Casey
  • Anita Miller
  • Shawn Murray
  • Dan Spohn

The interviews will occur during a Special Meeting at 9:00 a.m. on April 6, 2026, in Council Chambers (3rd floor) at City Hall (107 N Nevada). The meeting will start at 9 a.m. The following interview process is subject to change.

During the meeting, candidates will be given five minutes to address City Council as to why they are the most qualified candidate to fill this vacancy. After a candidate's opening statement, Councilmembers will ask follow-up questions. Candidate responses will be limited to three minutes per question.

At the conclusion of hearing from all candidates, the meeting will then move to Public Comment. Constituents will be allowed three minutes each to speak about the potential candidates. Following the Public Comment window, City Council will then deliberate and vote on selected candidates. This process will involve a nomination period to narrow down the candidate field. The chosen finalist must receive a majority of five votes from the eight City Councilmembers to secure appointment to City Council.

The appointed District 2 Councilmember will fill the partial term which expires in April of 2027. Following this twelve-month appointment, a two-year term for District 2 will appear on the April 2027 Municipal Election ballot. At this time, the appointed Councilmember would be able to run for re-election. Beginning in April 2029, the District 2 seat will resume on the standard four-year election cycle.

The appointed District 2 Councilmember will be sworn in on April 13, 2026, at the start of the Work Session.
