Chinese Consul General in Auckland Chen Shijie Attends Matariki Multiculture Festival

On 22 June, Consul General Chen Shijie attended Matariki Multiculture Festival cohosted by New Zealand Multiculture Arts Exchange Center and Hoani Waititi Marae. New Zealand Members of Parliament Hon Melissa Lee, Carlos Cheung, Hon Barbara Edmonds, Hon Jenny Salesa, President of New Zealand-China Friendship Society Mike Dawson along with 700 audience watched the performance.

Consul General Chen extended Maori New Year greetings to the audience, emphasized the significance of promoting exchanges and mutual learning between China and New Zealand in light of the United Nations' International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations, noted that the successful visit of Prime Minister Luxon to China highlighted the Matariki spirit of promoting mutual understanding and cooperation.

The performance was divided into four chapters, telling the mythological story and cultural connotation of Matariki through traditional Maori and Chinese songs and dances. Exhibitions of Maori culture and Chinese shadow puppet were also held in the front hall of the theatre before the show.
