Wall Street leader and philanthropist Ed Hajim will speak at Stony Brook University and host a book signing for his books, On the Road Less Traveled: An Unlikely Journey from the Orphanage to the Boardroom and The Island of the Four Ps: A Modern Fable About Preparing for Your Future.
Students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend the upcoming talk and book signing, happening onFriday, October 10 from 12:30 to 1:30 pmin Student Activities Center (SAC) Ballroom A. Refreshments will be served at the event, and anyone interested in attending can fill out a form to RSVP.
Hajim is a seasoned Wall Street executive, who has held a variety of roles in senior management, including chairman and CEO, for companies like ING Aeltus Group and MLH Capital. He is currently Chairman of High Vista, a Boston-based money management company. In addition to his professional investment experience spanning across 50 years, he also is the son of a Syrian immigrant and had a challenging upbringing, including being kidnapped by his own father at age 3 and spending many years in an orphanage.
His novel On the Road Less Traveledexplores the challenges he has faced and lessons he learned from them, such as the anecdote, "I realized that my childhood seemed to give me a foundation for recognizing the need for balance between self, family, work and community." Additionally, Hajim now engages in philanthropic activities through the Hajim Family Foundation. He also won the Horatio Alger Award in 2015, which is "bestowed upon exceptional leaders who have triumphed over adversity to achieve greatness," according to the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc.
The event is presented by the Office of DI3 and the Career Center.
