Construction Update for Lakewood Boulevard

Construction Update for Lakewood Boulevard

Published on October 23, 2025

Lakewood's recently approved street improvement project on Lakewood Boulevard from Del Amo Boulevard to the northerly city limits began Sept. 22 with the removal and replacement of damaged or non-compliant concrete hardscape and continued with the street paving portion of the project starting Oct. 6.

The project is nearing the finish line.

The final work is planned to start Friday evening, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. and continue through the weekend of Oct. 25-26 on the section of Lakewood Boulevard from just south of Hardwick Street to Candlewood Street.

What to expect

  • Overnight work Friday evening and daytime work on the weekend with lane reductions and traffic control in place.
  • For easier access to Lakewood Center and Restaurant Row, use Del Amo Boulevard or Clark Avenue.
  • Allow extra travel time and follow posted signs and crew directions.
  • Nighttime work minimizes traffic impacts and ensures the highest quality paving.

The repaving project uses transportation-dedicated dollars funded by a mixture of sources (Proposition C, Measure R and Measure M exchanged funding), ensuring no impact on the city's general fund. This approach continues Lakewood's unique pledge to repave 100% of its streets-an achievement already reached once and now sustained through ongoing reinvestment in the community's infrastructure.
