Watch Hether Perform "Monica" with Live Band & String Section:
On his debut album, Holy Water , Paul Castelluzzo officially arrives as Hether: a rare artist who has been "a secret weapon for years" (KCRW), an undeniable feeling of "a mildly hallucinogenic daydream" (Stereogum), and a trademark sound that has been quietly defining a moment in music. Announced today and out October 24th on the record label R&R (Dijon, Mk.gee), Holy Water coalesces a storied young life, unbelievable history of collaborations and an enduring love of 1960s jazz into an 18-song odyssey that reveals deeper pockets of subtleties and intricacies with each repeated listen. Written, produced, mixed and engineered by Paul Castelluzzo, aka Hether, the album exists within a sonic world that he created and now seemingly everyone wants to live in, as personal, layered and vividly colored as the path he took to get there.

"'Monica' was the first song I've ever written, I reproached it structurally after sitting on it for years. It juxtaposes two repeating sections, one complex and one simple, to mirror the feeling of loving and losing someone.
"'Stupid Love' is a song written by me and Remi Wolf. I wanted to make a song that feels like the way the sunset looks in California right before a green flash. The sky exploding with all these colors and then right before your eyes it's gone and darkness creeps in."
-Paul Castelluzzo, aka Hether
Before being called "the coolest man in music" (The Line of Best Fit), Paul Castelluzzo was a teenager surfing the beaches of San Diego and playing bars with local jazz greats like Curtis Taylor, until Rodney Jerkins brought him to Los Angeles to perform on tracks for Britney Spears and Justin Bieber. In between driving for Lyft and serving as the music director for a Russian Pentecostal church to make ends meet, he was enlisted for Romeo Santos' album, Golden, but soon returned home to begin his next chapter as Hether. Since then, his self-taught guitar style, songwriting talents and profound production palette have led to him working with everyone from Clairo, Dominic Fike, Remi Wolf and The Marías to Paul McCartney, Anderson .Paak, Benny Blanco, Kali Uchis, Kenny Beats, Mac Miller, Rick Ross, Vince Staples and more who continue to discover Hether.
Having already amassed millions of streams and hundreds of thousands of fans, landing music in HBO shows and scoring films, Holy Water marks both the culmination of everything Castelluzzo has experienced and accomplished, and an expansive new evolution of a project that has shaped the present and predicted the future, but remains entirely his own.
Citing overlooked legends like Barney Kessel and Andrew Hill as longtime inspirations, Hether's "Stupid Love" and "Monica" follow the recently-released "Falling For The Feeling," each enveloping heart-wrenching emotions in an arrangement of deceptively gentle and cosmic guitar leads, pleading confessions and unpredictable symphonic ornamentations, driven forward by unshakable grooves of drums and bass.
On the heels of playing Lollapalooza and Osheaga as part of Dominic Fike's band, Hether will soon detail the live debut of Holy Water, with much more to come.
