PITTSBURGH - Allegheny Health Network (AHN) is proud to announce that Maria Gioia, DO, a distinguished family medicine physician within its network, will be honored with the Nathaniel Bedford Primary Care Award by the Allegheny County Medical Society (ACMS) at its 2025 Distinguished Awards Celebration. This esteemed award recognizes a primary care physician for exemplary, compassionate, comprehensive and dedicated care of patients.
Dr. Gioia will be celebrated alongside other outstanding physicians and community partners at the ACMS Distinguished Awards ceremony, set to take place this evening at Acrisure Stadium. The event acknowledges individuals and organizations that embody ACMS's mission to advance excellence in medicine and community service throughout Allegheny County.

This well-deserved recognition is a testament to the profound impact she has on our patients through direct care, teaching the next generation of family physicians and developing community health partnerships," said Amy Crawford-Faucher, MD, chair, AHN Primary Care Institute. Dr. Gioia serves as medical director at AHN Forbes Family Medicine in Monroeville and associate program director for its residency program. She is a staunch advocate for women, children, LGBTQ+ individuals and those facing health inequities. Her leadership extends to initiatives such as 'Walk with a Doc,' which empowers patients to adopt healthier, more active lifestyles and build community connections. Dr. Gioia also serves on the board for the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians.
The ACMS Distinguished Awards Celebration also supports the ACMS Foundation's Physician Wellness Program, which aims to strengthen wellness resources for physicians throughout the region.
