Grassley, Durbin Applaud Unanimous Senate Passage of Five Law Enforcement Bills

WASHINGTON - Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Ranking Member Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) welcomed the Senate's unanimous passage of five bipartisan law enforcement bills the Judiciary Committee advanced during National Police Week.

"Law enforcement officers stand on the thin blue line every day, risking their lives to protect our nation's communities from crime and violence. Congress must ensure these brave men and women have the resources they need to carry out their work safely and effectively," Grassley said. "As Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, I've worked with Ranking Member Durbin and bipartisan committee members to advance pro-police bills that boost training and retention, upgrade local departments' technology and safeguard officers' physical and mental wellbeing. I applaud the Senate for passing these bills unanimously and urge my colleagues in the House of Representatives to act swiftly and deliver this much-needed support to our nation's officers."

"Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe. Congress must match its gratitude with action, and this legislative package will help bolster support, training, and resources for officers. I urge the House to take up and pass these bills expeditiously," said Durbin.

The Senate passed the following legislation, which now heads to the House of Representatives for further consideration:

  • The Fighting Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Act of 2025, led by Grassley and Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.), will direct the Department of Justice (DOJ) to develop treatment programs for first responders suffering from PTSD or acute stress disorders.
  • The Lieutenant Osvaldo Albarati Stopping Prison Contraband Act, led by Grassley and Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) will enhance safety and accountability in federal prisons by stemming the flow of dangerous contraband.
  • The Promoting Police Leadership Act, led by Sens. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), will improve commander level training curriculum across law enforcement agencies.
  • The Carla Walker Act, led by Cornyn and Sen. Peter Welch (D-Vt.), will dedicate federal grant funds to support forensic genetic genealogy DNA analysis to help solve cold cases.
  • The Tribal Warrant Fairness Act, led by Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and former Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.), will allow the U.S. Marshals Service to assist Tribal law enforcement in tracking down criminals and searching for missing children.
