Mobile, Ala. - Mobilians are invited on Thursday, May 7, to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the National Day of Prayer during a midday event at USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park.

Hosted by the National Day of Prayer Alabama Task Force, with support from the City of Mobile and Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis, this special event looks to bring the community together in prayer for our city, nation, and world. This year's event will mark 75 years of the National Day of Prayer and the 250th Anniversary of the founding of the United States of America.

With the natural beauty of Mobile Bay and the majesty of the USS Alabama as an alluring backdrop, this year's gathering will offer a moment of reflection, renewal, and group prayer. Community leaders, faith groups, and individuals of all faiths are invited and encouraged to attend. The event is slated to take place from noon to 1:30 p.m., and thanks to support from USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park, those attending the National Day of Prayer will be able to park for the event at no charge. Please notify the park attendant you're participating in the National Day of Prayer event.

The program will feature a variety of local faith leaders, speakers, and musicians coming together for a meaningful time of prayer and reflection. Attendees can expect to hear messages from local pastors, as well as other community leaders, including Mayor Cheriogotis. More details about the event can be found at facebook.com/AlabamaNationalDayofPrayer.

"Surrounded by one of our most cherished natural resources and a powerful symbol of our nation's history, there could not be a more fitting place to come together in prayer for our community and country," Mayor Cheriogotis said. "I want to commend the Alabama Task Force for the work they do to bring believers together every year, and I'm proud to be a part of this special event on the 75th Anniversary of the National Day of Prayer."

Held annually on the first Thursday in May, the National Day of Prayer is recognized across the United States, bringing millions of Americans together in prayer. It is organized by the National Day of Prayer Task Force and celebrated by believers of multiple faiths across the country each year.

A limited number of chairs will be provided at the event at Battleship Park on May 7. The stage will be set up at the east end of the park near the front of the Battleship. Attendees are welcome to bring chairs or blankets of their own for seating.
