MEDIA RELEASE: Most City Departments Closed Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (Monday, January 19, 2026)

The City of Cedar Rapids will observe the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday on Monday, January 19, 2026.
Most City departments will be closed. The following City services will operate as indicated:
  • Fire Department - Administrative and Fire Marshal's offices closed. Responding to emergencies.
  • Library - Both locations of the Cedar Rapids Public Library will be closed Sunday, January 18, and Monday, January 19, 2026.
  • Police Department - Administrative offices closed. Responding to emergencies. Non-emergency calls can be directed to 319-286-5491.
  • Solid Waste & Recycling - Administrative offices closed. There will be NO DELAY TO COLLECTION on Monday, January 19, 2026. Collection will run as regularly scheduled all week.
  • Transit - Transit service will run as regularly scheduled.
