COLUMBIA, S.C. (March 25, 2026) - The South Carolina State Election Commission (SEC) voted 4-0 on Wednesday after a special called meeting to appoint Conway Belangia as the agency's next Executive Director.
Before his appointment, Belangia served as the Director of the Board of Voter Registration and Elections in Greenville County for 34 years and has served as an elections official for more than four decades, with stops at the State Election Commission and in Orangeburg County. During his tenure in Greenville, Belangia was awarded the Moore Award by the South Carolina Association of Registration and Election Officials in 2018 and the Order of the Palmetto from Governor Henry McMaster in 2026.
"I am honored and humbled to be chosen to lead the State Election Commission," Belangia said. "I am committed to upholding the integrity, transparency, and accessibility of our state's elections. I look forward to working with our team and partners at the state and local level to ensure every voter has confidence in the process."
The Executive Director of the State Election Commission serves as the state's chief election official and oversees the agency's day-to-day operations. The position is subject to Senate approval.
