September is National Emergency Preparedness Month

This is a great time to update emergency supply kits for the season, visit with your family about emergency plans, and make sure you're prepared for winter.

The general rule of thumb is to plan supplies and equipment for three days for each person and pet in your household. Think about the specific needs of your family - food, water, medication, and protection from the elements. Consider comfort and entertainment like books and toys, too.

Make sure to communicate about emergency plans including how you will communicate, where you will meet if disaster strikes during school or work, and safe places to go for shelter. Taking a few minutes to think through plans and talk about them can make all the difference.
