Mayor Bass Celebrates Grand Opening of New 80-Unit Affordable Housing Development in Koreatown

The 100% Affordable Housing Project is the First Project in Koreatown to Be Completed Under Mayor Bass' Executive Directive 1

LOS ANGELES - Mayor Karen Bass today was joined by Councilmember Heather Hutt, affordable housing developers, and Korean American community leaders for the grand opening of a new affordable housing project in Koreatown, where 90% of residents are renters. Today's grand opening marks the first affordable housing project in Koreatown to be completed under Mayor Bass' Executive Directive 1 (ED1). B-roll and photos are available here.

"Today, we're celebrating more than the opening of a new building; we're celebrating families coming home," said Mayor Bass. "This project is the first in Koreatown completed under my Executive Directive 1, and with nearly 47,000 affordable units now in the pipeline citywide, we're showing what happens when City Hall slashes red tape and works with local partners to urgently deliver the affordable housing Los Angeles has needed for so long."

"Today marks a significant milestone for Koreatown and for our citywide effort to confront the housing crisis head-on. I want to thank Mayor Bass for her leadership on ED1, which has been instrumental in getting projects like this off the ground faster," said Councilwoman Heather Hutt, Council District 10. "Koreatown is one of the densest neighborhoods in Los Angeles, and this project will greatly benefit our community, delivering much-needed housing, faster, to the people who call Koreatown home."

With 90% of Koreatown residents being renters, the 80-unit development will provide new, 100% affordable housing for Angelenos. Mayor Bass signed Executive Directive 1 during her first week in office to streamline the approval of affordable housing across Los Angeles. Currently, nearly 47,000 units of affordable housing are in the pipeline with 6,000 already under construction. In December 2025, the City Council voted unanimously in favor of making the directive a permanent city ordinance.

On Monday, Mayor Bass celebrated the grand opening of a new 100% affordable housing project for Veterans in Koreatown. She also recently unveiled the largest affordable housing project approved under her Executive Directive 1 to date - Viva L.A. at Warner Center - which will serve LA's senior population with more than 3,000 units.

In addition to Executive Directive 1, Mayor Bass' efforts to rapidly accelerate the building of housing across Los Angeles include:

• Implementing the Citywide Housing Incentive Program (CHIP), the largest local rezoning program in modern history that creates the capacity for half a million new homes and opens up more of the city to housing - along major corridors, near transit, and in neighborhoods where people already live and work.

• Expanding the Adaptive Reuse Ordinance citywide to convert vacant office buildings and parking lots into housing, which could create more than 43,000 new homes across the city.

• Signing Executive Directive 19 to modernize and streamline how the City reviews and processes building applications, responding directly to the barriers that applicants, developers, and contractors have identified as impediments to building in Los Angeles.

• Releasing four Missing Middle LA draft ordinances to make it easier to build smaller, more affordable options for homebuyers and renters, like duplexes and accessory dwelling units (ADUs).
