Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Red River, Texas, hosted senior Department of War logistics leadership Oct. 28 for an in-depth review of the command's inventory accuracy, audit readiness initiatives, and direct support to Army warfighter readiness.

Joe Faris, deputy commander, DLA Distribution, and Army Lt. Col. Caleb Conant, commander, DLA Distribution Red River, hosted Erica Plath, Deputy Assistant Secretary of War for Logistics, providing a comprehensive operational overview and a first-hand look at the center's physical inventory controls.

The visit centered on the vital connection between auditable inventory practices and theater-level operational readiness, emphasizing that mission success for ground forces depends on dependable, real-time tracking of Army parts and material.

"When senior leaders walk our facilities and see firsthand how our workforce executes physical-to-book accountability every single day, it reinforces the critical message that audit readiness is not an administrative burden, it is foundational to combat capability," Faris said.

The engagement began with an overview of the site's mission, facility footprint and specialized audit compliance protocols. Conant highlighted the site's critical role supporting Army weapon systems and industrial maintenance programs.

Following the briefing, leadership toured key operational zones, examining standardized receiving, sorting, and bin-storage operations. They also saw first-hand a targeted review of freight staging and audit verification processes at active handling points.

During the tour, the group observed a demonstration of automated cycle-counting procedures designed to reduce manual discrepancies, accelerate physical reconciliations, and ensure data integrity across high-turnover lines.

The walkthrough concluded with a look at storage and accountability procedures for oversized, heavy, and specialized tactical Army material held in dedicated holding yards. Throughout the visit, leaders discussed strategies for modernizing legacy tracking methods, strengthening internal controls, and sustaining audit-ready balances across all classes of supply.

"What we saw today at Red River exemplifies the standard of excellence and rigorous discipline driving our operations across the entire DLA Distribution network," Faris said. "The work done here reflects a command-wide commitment to audit integrity, demonstrating that when our inventory controls are rock-solid, our joint and Army warfighters receive the dependable, responsive support they need to maintain total combat readiness."
