Venus Mary Green, a doctoral student in the Department of Sociology, has been awarded the Gaius Charles Bolin Fellowship in the Anthropology and Sociology Department at Williams College.
Green's research focuses on the structural dimensions of racialized and gendered labor regimes in the U.S. and the intersectional inequalities that Black and African descendant women workers experience due to the afterlife of slavery. Her research incorporates interviews, Black feminist-grounded ethnography, media analysis, and oral histories of Black women domestic workers' political organizing practices and work experiences in Boston and New York City during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
During her time as the residential faculty fellow at Williams, Green will complete her manuscript and will also teach one course as a faculty member in the Anthropology and Sociology Department at Williams College. Green's research has been published in Gender and Society, Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, Sociological Spectrum and TRAILS.
