Webinar: How to spot and fight climate disinformation

Climate information has become a prime target for disinformation strategies across the media and social media networks. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) is organising two online workshops 一featuring the same content on two different dates一 for journalists on how to identify and counter climate disinformation, as part of its project 'Strengthening media capacities to combat climate misinformation and disinformation', which is funded by Global Initiative.

This webinar will equip participants with the tools to identify the mechanisms behind the 'manufacturing of doubt', deconstruct misleading narratives using real-world case studies, and develop the ability to verify information in the face of complex facts and the viral spread of falsehoods.

The session will cover:

• Understanding how disinformation works and how it differs from misinformation
• Analysing and debunking misleading climate narratives using real-life examples
• Developing verification reflexes in the face of the rapid spread of false information
• What journalists' unions and associations can do to counter climate misinformation and disinformation

The first part of the webinar is designed and delivered by Emmanuel Vincent, founder and Executive Director of Science Feedback, an association dedicated to improving the credibility of science-related information online. The second part will be delivered by Jennifer Moreau, IFJ's Vice-President and Unifor's national representative (on 27 May) and by Bianca Hall, IFJ representative and MEAA's media vice-president (on 28 May), who will bring the union perspective to the issue of climate disinformation.

To accommodate the IFJ's global audience, the same webinar will be held on two separate dates. It is open to the public, but registration is required.
