Telehealth Services - Impact During Budget Impasse

Telehealth Services - Impact During Budget Impasse

Due to the federal budget impasse in Congress, as of October 1, some telehealth (virtual) visits will not be covered under Medicare, Anthem Federal and some Medicare Advantage health plans.

Who and what is impacted?

  • Those covered by Medicare, Anthem Federal and some Medicare Advantage plans
  • Audio/video visits when a patient is at home, work or anywhere other than a health care facility
  • Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy services

Who and what is not impacted?

  • Those with MaineCare or commercial insurance plans, at this time
  • Behavioral health services or substance use disorder services. You may be asked to come in for an in-person visit in between virtual sessions.
  • Services where the patient is onsite at another health care facility (such as cancer center satellite clinics)

If you have a telehealth visit scheduled and are impacted, your practice will reach out to you with options.

We are hopeful that this is a temporary suspension of coverage, and will announce any future changes on this page and on our Facebook page.
