Rep. Pettersen Statement on the Rise in Political Violence

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Representative Brittany Pettersen (CO-07) released the following statement after Republicans' cynical ploy to divide the country around the rise in political violence and the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

"I unequivocally condemn all political violence. Nobody should be targeted for their beliefs. Charlie Kirk's death is another tragedy in a string of horrific acts just this year alone. It pains me to think about his kids who will grow up without their father and his wife, Erika, who lost her husband and partner.

"I support the language in this resolution condemning this violent act and have led a resolution in Congress condemning all acts of political violence.

"However, I could not vote in favor of the partisan language that was also added to this resolution. Instead of bringing us together to heal and stand together, unfortunately, Speaker Johnson was willing to play partisan games that continue to divide us.

"It is truly unimaginable that in this moment of tragedy, these cynical tactics were prioritized over the leadership that is so desperately needed right now in our country."
