DPM Ibrahimović’s official visit to Azerbaijan focused on strengthening political dialogue and economic ties

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović is paying an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, at the invitation of Azerbaijan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov.

During the visit, Ibrahimović held a series of meetings with high-ranking officials of the Republic of Azerbaijan, representing an important opportunity to further strengthen bilateral relations in areas of mutual interest, with a particular focus on enhancing economic cooperation.

At the meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov, it was confirmed that relations between Montenegro and the Republic of Azerbaijan are very good, partnership-based and friendly, and that they are continuously being advanced through substantive cooperation in all areas of shared interest. The two officials emphasized the importance of frequent political dialogue, which is expected to be further intensified through the realization of announced high-level and highest-level visits in the coming period.

Special attention was devoted to strengthening cooperation in the field of energy, as well as to the conclusion of relevant agreements and the organization of expert-level meetings, particularly in the areas of gas supply and renewable energy sources. Discussions also focused on the further development of economic cooperation, which is highly positioned on the bilateral agenda, with the assessment that there is significant potential to increase trade exchange and direct investments. Ibrahimović expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijan for its contribution to the realization of valuable infrastructure projects that further promote Montenegro as a safe and attractive destination for investment.

Ibrahimović and Bayramov signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two ministries in the field of consular affairs, thereby establishing an additional institutional framework for enhancing cooperation and providing higher-quality services to the citizens of both countries.

Ibrahimović also met with Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan. During the talks, the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and intensifying cooperation between legislative bodies was highlighted, along with confirmation of mutual commitment to nurturing friendly relations and further strengthening overall cooperation between the two countries.

In his meeting with Ali Asadov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, discussions focused on advancing bilateral relations, with particular emphasis on economic projects, investments, energy and infrastructure. Ibrahimović stressed that Montenegro remains a reliable partner and is strongly committed to the development of stable and long-term relations with Azerbaijan.

As part of the official visit, Ibrahimović also met with Sahil Babayev, Minister of Finance of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Co-Chair of the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation between Montenegro and the Republic of Azerbaijan. On that occasion, readiness was expressed to strengthen the work of the Commission and further concretize cooperation in the fields of investments, tourism and finance. Particular emphasis was placed on the need for stronger promotion of Montenegro's tourism potential on the Azerbaijani market, with the aim of increasing tourist flows.

Ibrahimović informed his interlocutors that Montenegro is ambitiously fulfilling its set objectives, with the intention of closing all negotiation chapters by the end of 2026 and becoming a full member of the European Union by 2028.

During his stay in Baku, Ibrahimović laid wreaths at the monument dedicated to Victory Day, as well as at the Eternal Flame in the Alley of Martyrs, paying tribute to the victims and the historical heritage of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
