Rep. Figures Announces 2025 Congressional App Challenge Winners

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Representative Shomari C. Figures (AL-02) announced the winners of the 2025 Congressional App Challenge, a nationwide competition designed to encourage middle and high school students to highlight the importance of computer science and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education:

  • First Place: Kim Ha Anh Tran and Anton Yang who developed "Progress Tracker," a web-based, Kanban-style task management application that allows users to drag and drop tasks between columns to visually track their workflow.
  • Second Place: Sean Mitteer, Owen Farmer, and Kamden Raiford who developed the "Flight Finder" app, which simplifies air travel planning by allowing users to choose an airline, view aircraft performance details, and calculate estimated flight time, distance, and cost between two locations using an interactive world map.
  • Third Place: Xaviyah Yates, Lillyanna Adams, Kentorian Walker, and Kyndal Williams who developed "Lend-A-Hand," which allows users to join and organize volunteer events and connect socially with others who share the same passion for giving back.

"Congratulations to the winners of the 2nd District Congressional App Challenge, and thank you to all of the participants, educators, parents, and local partners who helped make this year's App Challenge a success," said Rep. Figures. "We know that a STEM education is more important today than ever before, and I am incredibly proud to give our students a platform to showcase all of their innovative ideas and creativity. I look forward to what these young developers accomplish next."

The 2025 Congressional App Challenge was highly competitive and included submissions by 35 students from across the 2nd Congressional District. All submissions were scored and selected by a panel of four judges: Abe Harper, Founder and President of Harper Technologies, LLC; Ryan Johnson, Founder and CEO of Cxmmunity Media; Charisse D. Stokes, President of Tidal IT Solutions and Executive Director of TechMGM; and Andy Britton, Director of Public Affairs & Communications for Coca-Cola Bottling Company.
