Barnes & Noble Opens New Store in Atlanta, GA07/01/2026

Author Tayari Jones to Host Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony and Book Signing at the Grand Opening at 10AM on Wednesday, July 8th, 2026

Atlanta, GA - July 1st, 2026 -Barnes & Noble is pleased to announce the opening of its new Atlanta, GA bookstore on Wednesday, July 8th. Opening in the Edgewood Retail District just east of Atlanta, the store returns to the market where the previous Edgewood Barnes & Noble closed in 2022. This is the first Grand Opening in the Atlanta area for the year, with two more stores opening in Toco Hills and in Peachtree Corners in the coming months.

The new Edgewood Barnes & Noble will offer over 15,000 square feet of books, toys, games, magazines, gift items, a Barnes & Noble Café and more. It is located in Edgewood Retail District (1205 Caroline Street NE), in the former Office Depot space, next to Kroger.

The Edgewood Barnes & Noble bookstore will officially open to the public at 10AM eastern on Wednesday the 8th, with local author Tayari Jones cutting the ribbon and signing copies of her acclaimed book, Kin. Costume Character the Cat in the Hat will also be joining the festivities, including meet & greets with customers and a special story time over the opening weekend.

The new Edgewood Barnes & Noble is one of two stores opening in July, joining another in Farmington, CT. Excitingly, both stores are returning to markets where Barnes & Noble had recently been obliged to close, reestablishing ties to these book-loving communities.

Barnes & Noble Premium and Rewards Members will earn double stamps on all purchases made between July 8th and July 12th. Customers who are not yet Members are encouraged to sign up and start earning stamps and rewards right away.

Everyone who visits the new Edgewood Barnes & Noble during the grand opening will have access to exclusive deals, like $50 off any NOOK device. Customers can also save 40% on all DVD, Blu-ray, and 4k Ultra HD movies.

"We are very pleased to be returning to the Edgewood area of Atlanta," said James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble. "With three new stores opening in and around Atlanta over the next several months, it is a very busy time for our booksellers. We look forward to joining the Toco Hills area for the first time and relocating our store in Peachtree Corners to a new space within The Forum Shopping Center. It remains for us to find a new location within the Cumberland neighborhood for our store there which very sadly is obliged to close. Happily, we will have more stores open in Atlanta at the end of the year than we did at the beginning."

Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful. The bookseller is experiencing strong sales in its existing stores and has been opening many new stores after more than 15 years of declining store numbers. Barnes & Noble now boasts well over 700 bookstores, having been below 600 stores as recently as 2023, with 60 stores total planned to open in 2026.

Store Manager LaNisha Bates, who has been with Barnes and Noble for 13 years said, "With over 50 years of combined book selling experience, my team and I are looking forward to returning to Edgewood and rebuilding our presence in this community. Personally, I am especially excited to be returning to Edgewood as I started my Barnes & Noble journey in our old Edgewood store, 2204, more than 13 years ago!"
