Edwards Announces Helene Recovery Funding

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Chuck Edwards (NC-11) announced the release of more than $172 million in FEMA Hazard Mitigation and Public Assistance funds to support ongoing hurricane recovery efforts in North Carolina. Funding secured for Western North Carolina includes:

  • $29,132,210 to Buncombe County for the acquisition and demolition of 62 flood and landslide-damaged properties
  • $647,382 to Buncombe County to cover subrecipient management costs associated with the acquisition and demolition project
  • $225,000 to North Carolina Emergency Management to update the State Hazard Mitigation Plan
  • $1,276,413 to the Town of Woodfin for culvert replacement
  • $321,129 to the Village of Flat Rock for park trail and rip-rap repairs
  • $205,852 to the Town of Canton for fire department temporary relocation
  • $962,976 to the Town of Laurel Park for road and culvert repairs
  • $237,316 to Chimney Rock Village for covered bridge and water tank repairs
  • $4,405,826 to Mountain Electric Cooperative for Cranberry Substation restoration
  • $197,002 to NC Dept. of Natural and Cultural Resources for road and park repairs
  • $1,155,120 to the Town of Spruce Pine for sewer line repairs
  • $409,080 to NC Dept. of Natural and Cultural Resources for debris removal
  • $215,729 to Mountain Electric Cooperative for electrical pole and line replacement
  • $32,216,445 to Yancey County for waterway debris removal
  • $1,006,494 to the Town of Maggie Valley for sewer line repairs
  • $228,834 to the Town of Maggie Valley for levee repairs at the wastewater treatment plant
  • $851,772 to Buncombe County for Sheriff, Fire, EMS, and Search and Rescue
  • $135,745 to Trinity Episcopal Church for drainage repairs
  • $265,616 to NCDOT for jurisdiction-wide debris removal
  • $1,721,164 to the City of Asheville for citywide roadway repairs
  • $1,899,101 to the City of Asheville for stormwater system repairs

  • $469,025 to Maggie Valley Sanitary District for water intake repairs

  • $534,411 to the Town of Maggie Valley for Jonathan Valley School Road and sewer repairs

  • $102,714 to the Town of Banner Elk for grant management
  • $129,568 to the Town of Canton for grant management
  • $148,223 to NCDOT for road and bridge repairs
