Neighborhood Lawn Aeration Program

Did you know that Olympia utility customers can get reimbursed for a lawn aerator rental? We do this to promote natural yard care practices and reduce stormwater runoff from lawns.

Why aerate your lawn?
Aerating your lawn reduces compaction and increases how much water your lawn and soil can absorb. This in turn helps reduce stormwater runoff and encourages deeper, healthier roots for a more resilient lawn.

How the program works:
You must be an Olympia Stormwater Utility customer to be eligible for this program.

This is a reimbursement program. You pay for the aerator up-front, and the City will reimburse you for a one-day rental fee after you complete these steps:
  1. At least three households (including yours) must agree to aerate their lawns and sign the liability waiver.
  2. Rent the aerator. Pick any local rental company. You or your group must pick it up. If you can't pick it up, arrange and pay for delivery and pickup. The City will not pay for delivery fees.
  3. Perform the work.
  4. Take photos of each person's finished lawn for proof that the work was done.
  5. Send in the complete application (including the names of at least two other neighbors and yourself), a copy of the equipment rental receipt and photos of the completed work.
