Credentialed media are invited to join NCDHHS leadership, Trillium Health Resources, Southeastern Integrated Care and the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina for a ribbon-cutting at a new adult/child Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC) on Friday, April 17, at noon. Kelly Crosbie, NCDHHS Assistant Secretary for Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Use Disorders, will speak at the event.
A BHUC offers 24-hour rapid, short-term stabilization for children four years or older and adults experiencing a crisis related to a mental health, substance use, and/or Intellectual Developmental Disorder diagnosis. They provide an alternative to a hospital Emergency Department and are a more appropriate setting for mental health care.
NCDHHS provided $2.2 million in funding for the facility as part of a historic mental health investment from the North Carolina General Assembly. This is the eighth of a planned 13 new or expanded BHUCs to open as a result of this investment.
