Free Vehicle Trackers to Encourage Participation in DenverTrack

Free Vehicle Trackers to Encourage Participation in DenverTrack

Published on November 04, 2025

Denver - November 4, 2025 - The Denver Police Department, in partnership with the Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority (CATPA), announces free Bluetooth AirTag/SmartTag tracker giveaway events for Denver residents. These Bluetooth trackers will work with the DenverTrack program that was announced in 2023, allowing the recipients to provide their vehicle's GPS location to Denver Police, in real time, if the vehicle is stolen. NOTE: The DenverTrack program does not provide the Denver Police Department direct access to vehicle location information.

Bluetooth tracker giveaway details:

  • To participate in the November 8, free Bluetooth tracker giveaway, vehicle owners must first register November 5, beginning at 2:00 p.m., online at the DPD Auto Theft Prevention page.
This event will fill up, therefore please try to register at 2:00 p.m., and select the time and DPD district station.
  • The giveaway events will occur between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., on November 8, at each of the six DPD district stations, but only for those who successfully register online.
  • Attendees will need to bring their vehicle registration and cell phone on November 8.
  • At their appointment, members of DPD's Volunteers in Policing Services (VIPS) will work with the vehicle owners on pairing the tracker to recipients' phones and signing them up for the DenverTrack program so that if their vehicle is stolen, owners can help DPD quickly locate it, arrest the suspect and return the vehicle to the owner.
  • Participants will also receive the DenverTrack window decal that alerts would-be-thieves that the vehicle has extra protection.

Providing the free smart trackers, in partnership with CATPA, and registering your vehicle for DenverTrack, are some of the many strategies DPD has implemented that helped reduce auto thefts 54% this year compared to the three-year average. Other programs include having vehicle owners sign up for the DenverTrack program, which includes 4,800 registered vehicles, and the Denver Auto Theft Team continues its focus on reducing theft of motor vehicles, recovering stolen vehicles and arresting auto theft suspects. Additionally, throughout the years, DPD has provided steering wheel locks to drivers.

Those who currently have an active GPS in their vehicle, or who purchase an AirTag/SmartTag tracking device, can register their car or truck for the DenverTrack program by visiting Denvergov.org/DenverTrack.
