IANA Satisfaction Survey Shows Strong Support and Continued Trust

Today, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) published the results of the latest Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) Community Leadership Engagement Satisfaction Survey, which measures IANA's support and effectiveness in addressing the needs of its key community oversight groups.

Overall satisfaction with the support provided by IANA reached 96 percent, with no respondents indicating dissatisfaction. All respondents agreed that IANA is effective in addressing the needs of their specific community group. Community leaders praised the IANA team on being proactive and efficient with their engagement efforts. They also noted that IANA's expertise, responsiveness to issues, and openness to feedback contribute significantly to their confidence in the organization.

The survey was distributed to leaders from IANA's primary community oversight and coordination groups, including the Customer Standing Committee, Country Code Names Supporting Organization Council, Generic Names Supporting Organization Council, Trusted Community Representatives, Internet Engineering Task Force leadership, and Internet number resource leadership and oversight groups. The purpose of the survey was to assess satisfaction with IANA's support, evaluate its effectiveness in meeting community needs, and identify considerations for IANA's strategic direction.

Echo Research, a global reputation consultancy, has conducted IANA surveys annually since 2013. This year, our approach to measuring satisfaction evolved into two distinct efforts: this survey of community leadership, and feedback obtained after events held with our customer community. The report presents findings from surveys conducted of community leadership between November 2025 and January 2026.

While the findings demonstrate strong confidence in IANA's expertise and timeliness, community leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining this high level of performance as the Internet's technical and policy landscape continues to evolve. Respondents identified the rapid pace of technological changes, particularly as it relates to artificial intelligence, as an area where IANA must continue to stay informed and adaptable. Additional considerations for future focus included root server governance and Resource Public Key Infrastructure services, as well as broader geopolitical dynamics affecting the Internet ecosystem.

Overall, the survey results indicate that community leaders view the IANA team as trusted and effective partners. Strong advocacy from these groups underscores the importance of sustaining proactive yet productive engagement efforts and ensuring that IANA continues to align its priorities with the needs of the global Internet community.

"Given the communities we serve and our accountability model, it is essential that we continue to get direct feedback to ensure we continue to do the right thing, but also adapt to new and emerging challenges. We appreciate the time our stakeholders set aside to help us continue to best address their needs," said Kim Davies, Vice President of IANA Services and President of Public Technical Identifiers.

As demonstrated throughout the years, these findings help inform IANA and the broader ICANN organization's ongoing engagement planning and strategic priorities. ICANN remains committed to maintaining transparent communication, supporting community needs, and adapting to an evolving technical environment while continuing to support the delivery of reliable and trusted IANA services.

About ICANN

ICANN's mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you need to type an address - a name or a number - into your computer or other device. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a nonprofit public benefit corporation with a community of participants from all over the world.
