The University of Toledo's John B. and Lillian E. Neff College of Business and Innovation is embracing the transformative power of artificial intelligence by empowering faculty to pursue professional development and share insights with colleagues as AI Fellows.
AI Fellows serve as experts and role models when it comes to the rapidly progressing implications of artificial intelligence in the classroom and in the workforce that they and their colleagues prepare students to enter upon graduation.
The fellowship empowers faculty to first pursue professional development opportunities within or beyond UToledo, then to relay their lessons learned with colleagues through presentations as well as the maintenance of collaborative resources regarding best practices. AI Fellows also are asked to make themselves available to mentor colleagues who are integrating artificial intelligence into their courses.
"Advancements in artificial intelligence are driving rapid transformation in business and in education," said Dr. Barbara Ritter, dean of the Neff College of Business. "The Neff College of Business is committed to ensuring our faculty expertise and curriculum offerings are at the cutting edge of this powerful technology to prepare students for careers of the future."
Seven faculty members in five disciplines make up the inaugural cohort of 2025-26 AI Fellows:
• Deedee Liedel, senior lecturer in the Department of Accounting;
• Collin Gilstrap, associate professor in the Department of Finance;
• Fred Ahrens, associate lecturer, and Dr. Steve Wallace, associate professor, in the Department of Information Systems and Supply Chain Management;
• Jenell Wittmer, professor in the Department of Management;
• Dr. Tyler Hancock, associate professor, and Dr. Susan Shultz, senior lecturer, in the Department of Marketing and International Business.
