Limited Lab Access During Suspension of On-Campus Activities

With the current suspension of on-campus activities at the UT Health Science Center Memphis campus, the campus is closed except to designated essential staff.

We recognize that, in limited circumstances, researchers or research staff may need to access laboratory spaces to maintain ongoing experiments or critical research operations. Any such access must be limited to essential maintenance activities only and may not be used to initiate new work.

To support these needs and to ensure coordination with campus police and facilities, the following approval process is in effect:

  • Researchers who identify a need to come on campus must email their respective Associate Dean for Research and Wesley Byerly in the Office of Research, with a copy to their immediate supervisor (PI or department chair). The request should include:
    • The reason access to campus is required
    • The potential consequences if access is not granted
    • The name(s) of the individual(s) who will be on campus
    • The specific location(s) to be accessed
    • The anticipated date and time of arrival
    • The estimated duration of the visit
  • The Associate Dean for Research and the Office of Research will review each request and either approve it or work with the requestor to identify alternatives (for example, whether an essential employee already on campus can address the issue).
  • If approved, the Office of Research will notify campus police and other relevant units as needed.
  • Researchers and research staff should not come on campus until they have received confirmation from the Office of Research that the request has been approved and cleared.

Please be mindful of travel conditions and the limited services available on campus. Access by researchers and research staff should remain limited to the minimum necessary.

If you have any questions, please contact your Associate Dean for Research or Wesley Byerly in the Office of Research.
