The City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) Parks & Recreation Department is excited to share the latest updates and volunteer opportunities for the 35-mile Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) Riding Park project. Together with our partners at Juneau Off-Road Association (JORA) and Trail Mix, Inc., CBJ invites the public to an open-house style meeting on Thursday, July 9 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Mendenhall Valley Library Large Meeting Room.
Construction of an ORV riding park has had significant community support since the 2000s, as ORV riders found there were few areas available in Juneau for legal motorized use. In 2013, CBJ identified a 35-mile site of CBJ property near North Bridget Cove Trail as a possible location for an ORV park. After vetting the land for safety and hosting several public meetings to understand riding needs, construction began on the park in 2024 with significant volunteer support from JORA and Trail Mix, Inc. Now, construction of the driveway, parking lot, and picnic area are complete and construction of the first trail is set to finish later this year.
Community members are welcome to learn more about the project and ways to get involved at the July 9 meeting. Remaining construction of the project will be completed through the support of grants from the State of Alaska Multi-Use Trails Program and the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative, private donations, and volunteers.
