LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) hosted Cranky Dorkfest 2025, welcoming more than 500 aviation enthusiasts for exclusive behind-the-scenes access to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) ramp operations and aircraft displays. The event, which has grown from a small gathering to one of the region's premier aviation community celebrations, provided participants with rare opportunities to experience commercial aviation operations up close.
The event featured exclusive ramp access at the LAX Flight Path Museum and Learning Center, with static displays of passenger aircraft from Delta and American Airlines. Attendees toured aircraft interiors, interacted with flight crews, and observed LAX operations from unique vantage points typically restricted to the public.
"Cranky Dorkfest represents the very best of community engagement and aviation education," said Vanessa Rodriguez, Deputy Executive Director of External Affairs, Los Angeles World Airports. "This event allows us to share our passion for aviation with enthusiasts from around the world, while showcasing the incredible operations that make LAX one of the busiest origin and destination airports globally."
The morning aircraft tours were followed by the main community gathering at the "LAX Airplane Landing Viewpoint" park adjacent to In-N-Out Burger near LAX's north end. The park is renowned in the aviation enthusiast community for its views of the north runway complex. The community portion was free, offering attendees airplane spotting opportunities, networking and prizes donated by major airlines and aviation companies.
The event has evolved significantly since its inception as an informal gathering of aviation photographers and bloggers. LAWA's partnership has expanded the educational opportunities while maintaining the community-focused atmosphere that attracts aviation enthusiasts, industry professionals, photographers and community members interested in aviation.
