Human Rights Campaign PAC Endorses Virginia Redistricting Ballot Initiative

WASHINGTON, DC - Today the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) PAC, the nation's largest LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, announced its endorsement of a Virginia ballot initiative that would amend the state constitution to allow the Legislature to re-draw the state's Congressional districts this year.

Early voting is underway and Election Day is April 21 in Virginia.

This effort comes in response to the anti-democratic moves by several Republican-led state legislatures after demands from President Trump, which gerrymandered their Congressional maps and disenfranchised pro-equality residents of those states.

"Voters should choose their leaders, not the other way around. But anti-equality lawmakers around the country, in service to Donald Trump's assaults on democracy, are trying to undermine our elections and engineer their preferred outcome in the midterms," said Kelley Robinson, Human Rights Campaign President. "So Virginia is stepping up in this key moment to ensure that when the ballots are counted in the November Congressional elections, the will of the people is heard. The American people are ready to take Congress back from the anti-equality, anti-freedom politicians that have been abusing their power to hurt all our communities and bend government to the will of a wannabe king. We encourage all eligible Virginians to get out and vote April 21 in favor of this ballot initiative to help save our democracy."

HRC's Commitment to Virginia

Equality Voters - including the more than 2.2 million in Virginia - are a powerful and diverse voting bloc united by support for LGBTQ+ equality. Equality Voters are younger, more racially diverse, and more female than the general electorate, and they recognize and trust the HRC brand. HRC PAC has made significant investments in Virginia over the years, working to elect pro-equality champions up and down the ballot.
