Alberta’s top trades talent on the world stage

Beginning Sept. 22, competitors from across Alberta will join Team Canada at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, China. The international event brings together about 1,500 competitors from more than 70 countries and regions to compete in skilled trade and technology disciplines, showcasing the next generation of highly trained professionals.

With 12 of Team Canada's 31 competitors, Alberta has the largest contingent on the national team. Alberta competitors will participate in disciplines ranging from welding, plumbing and car painting to aerospace technology, CNC machining and web technologies, showcasing the breadth of talent and training opportunities available across the province.

Alberta's success at WorldSkills reflects the province's commitment to developing a highly skilled workforce through apprenticeship education, post-secondary investments and strong industry partnerships. With more than 81,000 registered apprentices, a record high for the province, Alberta continues to prepare the next generation of skilled professionals for rewarding careers in high-demand sectors while helping meet the province's growing workforce needs.
