Ramirez Slams Trump for Threat to Invoke the Insurrection Act
Washington, DC - Today, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez(IL-03) released the following statement after Donald Trump threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act and deploy US troops in Minnesota in response to protests against ICE violence in the state:
"Let's not get it twisted, they are running a playbook that too often ends in suspended elections. Invoking the Insurrection Act and deploying US troops in Minnesota isn't about safety or security. It is about intimidation, control, and power. Fascism's survival requires demonstrations of military force and acts of state violence to sow fear.
They've already tried to unconstitutionally invade Chicago because of our opposition to authoritarianism, and they FAILED. Stay courageous. Have hope. Dissent.
We must continue the fight against the wannabe king and his abuse of military power. Trump- and all the fascist leaders- must be impeached."
