LDAF Enforcement Agents Arrest Colfax Man For Simple Arson

ALEXANDRIA, La. - September 14, 2026 - Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) Enforcement agents have arrested a 38-year-old Colfax man in connection with an investigation into a wildfire in Rapides Parish.

On September 10, LDAF Enforcement agents, LDAF fire crews, local fire personnel and the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a reported wildfire near 418 Cabra Hill Road in Rapides Parish. During the response, Brian Todd Middleton reportedly fled the scene as law enforcement officers arrived.

Following the investigation, LDAF Enforcement agents obtained an arrest warrant for Middleton on a charge of simple arson.

On the morning of September 10, Middleton was taken into custody by the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office and booked into the Rapides Parish Jail on other charges. The LDAF arrest warrant for simple arson was subsequently served while Middleton was in custody.

LDAF Commissioner Mike Strain, DVM, reminds the public that fires can quickly spread and cause significant damage to Louisiana's forests and property. "Our enforcement agents and fire personnel work closely with local law enforcement and fire departments to investigate wildfires and determine their cause. We take these incidents seriously and will continue to hold those responsible accountable."

The investigation was conducted by LDAF Enforcement agents in coordination with the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office and state and local fire personnel. The investigation remains active and subject to the judicial process.
