09 October 2025

On October 9, 2025 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Maxim Ryzhenkov, took part in a regular meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which was held in Dushanbe (Tajikistan).

The heads of foreign ministries held a substantive exchange of views on topical issues on the international agenda and cooperation within the CIS format.

In his speech, M.Ryzhenkov noted the need to widely publicise the achievements of the Commonwealth and its ability to jointly counter modern challenges and threats.

He called for the continued implementation of a coordinated policy to promote common interests, both at the regional level and in international forums.

As a positive example of the implementation of this approach, he highlighted the adoption, on the initiative of Belarus, of a statement by the heads of state of the CIS on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear accident.

He welcomed the approval by the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the draft decision of the Council of Heads of State on granting the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation the CIS observer status.

He noted that Belarus expects the signing of the next roadmap for cooperation between the CIS Executive Committee and the Eurasian Economic Commission in the near future. We expect added value from the establishment of the "CIS+" format.

M.Ryzhenkov congratulated the head of the Azerbaijani delegation on the successful hosting of the CIS Games.

He invited his colleagues to join the Third Minsk Conference on Eurasian Security, which will be held in the Belarusian capital on 28-29 October.

Sixteen issues were considered at the CIS Foreign Ministers' meeting. After approval by the Foreign Ministers, 11 documents were submitted for further consideration by the Council of Heads of State of the CIS, and three documents were submitted to the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS.

The parties decided to hold the next meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS on April 17, 2026 in Kaliningrad, Russian Federation.

A series of brief meetings were held between the Belarusian Foreign Minister and a number of foreign ministers of the CIS member states.
