Contra Costa, Solano & Alameda Counties - Caltrans is announcing ongoing closures related to the Fiber Optic Infrastructure Project along both eastbound and westbound I-80, I-980 and I-580 in Contra Costa, Solano and Alameda Counties. The construction work, which focuses on installing new fiber optic infrastructure, will be conducted during overnight hours, specifically between 10 PM and 5 AM to minimize traffic disruption.
The project will move eastbound, starting at McDonald Avenue and progressing toward the Carquinez Bridge. Full closures are scheduled to continue Thursday, April 16, 2026, from 10 PM to 5 AM of the multiple on ramp between El Portal Drive and Richmond Parkway, with additional nightly closures to follow on I-80 and the I-980 to-I-580 interchange toward the connector between I-580 and I-80, throughout the duration of the project.
What to Expect:
Scheduled Lane and Ramp Closures
Caltrans will implement nightly lane and ramp closures on eastbound Interstate 80 (EB I-80) between McDonald Avenue and the Carquinez Bridge throughout May 2026. The next week's focus and closures is lanes #3 and # 4 (two right lanes) and ramp closures will be between El Portal Drive and Richmond Parkway. These closures are scheduled to occur Sunday through Thursday, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM

During these closure periods, motorists are advised to follow posted detour routes.
This project is tentatively scheduled for completion by Winter 2028.
Changeable Message Signs (CMS) will provide advance notice for motorists traveling in the area. Drivers may experience minor delays and are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time. Be work zone alert, drive with caution through the work zone.
