The defendant's sentence totals more than 4 years in prison for this and another case
COMPTON, Calif. - A 21-year-old man from Los Angeles was sentenced Friday to 16 months in state prison -to be served consecutively with a prior 3-year prison sentence- for engaging in commercial sex activity along the Figueroa Corridor last December.
"This sentence demonstrates my office's commitment to do everything possible to eradicate human trafficking, a multi-billion-dollar business that is essentially modern-day slavery," District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said. "Our effort to attack the human trafficking explosion will involve a multi-pronged approach to prosecute the human traffickers and pimps, the "Johns" who pay for the sex services, and the sex workers, whom we will work with by connecting them with counseling resources. I am thankful to the prosecutors and law enforcement partners for their work on this case."
On Nov. 4, Fabian Gilbert pleaded no contest to one felony count of pandering by encouraging another person to become a prostitute. Two days later, he was sentenced to three years in prison for an unrelated February 2024 carjacking case.
Gilbert was arrested on December 27, 2024, after police officers observed him follow a woman on Figueroa Street near 104th Street and aggressively tell her to engage in sex work for him.
Case 24CMCF02114 was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Destiny Ramsey and investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department.
