HARRISBURG - Senators Scott Martin (R-13) and Joe Picozzi (R-5) sponsored a resolution honoring Catholic Schools Week in Pennsylvania.
Martin and Picozzi sponsored a resolution designating Catholic Schools Week from January 25 through 31 in recognition of the nearly 140,000 students enrolled in Catholic schools statewide.
Martin and Picozzi are both products of Catholic schools, with Martin graduating from Lancaster Catholic High School in Lancaster and Picozzi graduating from Holy Ghost Preparatory School in Bensalem.
"As a proud product of a Catholic school, I feel grateful to have received a quality education in a learning environment that emphasized strong values and character," Martin said. "Lancaster Catholic played a key role in preparing me for the challenges I've encountered throughout my life. I am proud to sponsor a resolution designating this observance with Senator Picozzi."
Data show that 99 percent of Catholic school students graduate and 96 percent go to college.
"Catholic schools - especially in Northeast Philadelphia - have long been anchors of our communities, providing strong academics while instilling lasting values," Picozzi said. "I am a proud graduate of the parochial school system and proudly represent 15 Catholic schools in my district."
