Responding to Tobermory BCHC Fire

On Tuesday, June 23, 2026, a fire occurred in a unit at a seniors' apartment building in Tobermory, operated by Bruce County Housing Corporation.

The North Bruce Peninsula Fire Department from Tobermory responded to the scene and successfully brought the fire under control. As a precaution, all 12 households in the building were safely evacuated. There are no reported injuries.

Bruce County staff worked in coordination with the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula, emergency responders, and community members to support tenants. All residents have been provided with temporary accommodation in the Tobermory area, and the County's Human Services team is continuing to work directly with tenants to address immediate needs and next steps.

The site remains under the control of emergency officials. Residents are asked to avoid the area to allow crews to continue their work safely.

The building has been secured, and Bruce County's Housing Facilities team will begin a detailed assessment to determine the extent of damage and the work required for restoration.

Tenants, family members, and those wishing to offer support can contact 1-800-265-3022 for further information.

Bruce County extends its sincere thanks to the North Bruce Peninsula Fire Department, Bruce County Paramedic Services, the Ontario Provincial Police, the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula and community members for their quick response and support.
