Pinellas County joined the City of St. Petersburg on Wednesday, Feb. 4, to celebrate another big win in creating local homes for local people: the groundbreaking of Fairfield Avenue Apartments, a new development of 264 homes for people at a range of income levels.
The new development will include 74 one-bedroom units, 162 two-bedroom units, and 28 three-bedroom units, available to people earning between minimum wage to just above the Area's Median Income, including:
Located at 3300 Fairfield Avenue South, the apartments will be built on industrial land that was formerly home to the Tibbetts Lumber Company.
The $94-million project is supported by a mix of local, state, federal, and private financing, including $12.4 million from the County's Penny for Pinellas fund, $9.7 million from the City of St. Petersburg, a HUD construction loan, and developer equity. The property will be leased through a trust with the Housing Finance Authority of Pinellas County, and upon completion, the Pinellas County Housing Authority will own and manage the apartments.
Fairfield Avenue Apartments is part of continued progress across Pinellas County in 2026, with hundreds of new affordable homes opening and additional developments getting underway to expand housing choices for local residents.
