DoorDash Supports New York Legislation to Make Streets Safer

Every day, Dashers share the road with pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, transit riders, and other delivery workers. Making our streets safer requires practical, collaborative solutions from platforms, policymakers, workers, and everyone who shares the road.

DoorDash proudly supported two New York State road safety bills that would make streets safer for Dashers and the communities they serve: the Moped Registration Verification Act and the Stop Super Speeders Act. Together, these bills represent the kind of targeted, evidence-based policymaking that can improve safety while giving workers, platforms, and communities clear rules to follow.

"Street safety is a shared responsibility, and meaningful progress requires communities, industry, and lawmakers to collaborate on practical solutions," said Alex Spyropoulos, Head of New York and New Jersey Public Policy. "DoorDash is proud to support targeted policies that make a real difference for Dashers and the neighborhoods they serve. By strengthening moped compliance and addressing repeat dangerous speeding, these bills reflect the kind of change that can help make New York's streets safer for everyone."

Targeting repeat dangerous speeding

DoorDash supported the Stop Super Speeders Act, which would require intelligent speed assistance technology on vehicles owned by repeat, high-risk speeders.

This bill takes a targeted approach to one of the most dangerous behaviors on the road. By focusing on repeat dangerous speeders, the legislation is designed to address the drivers who pose the greatest risk to pedestrians, cyclists, Dashers, and other road users.

DoorDash supported inclusion of the Stop Super Speeders Act in the state budget and submitted a letter of support to the State Legislature. The bill reflects a data-driven approach aligned with the goals of Vision Zero: reducing serious injuries and fatalities on our streets.

Supporting safer, more accountable moped use

The Moped Registration Verification Act (A.5858 / S.6845) would require delivery platforms to verify moped registration for delivery workers. DoorDash supports the goals of this legislation because clear registration requirements can help promote safer, more accountable use of mopeds on New York streets.

DoorDash believes clear, consistent standards for moped registration can help reduce confusion, improve compliance, and support safer streets for everyone who shares the road, which is why we wrote a letter of support for this legislation. We will work with lawmakers and stakeholders to advance a final bill that protects Dashers, supports responsible delivery, and gives all parties the clarity needed to implement it successfully.

Working with New York

DoorDash is committed to partnering with New York policymakers to improve street safety. That means supporting legislation that is targeted, enforceable, and designed with real-world implementation in mind.

These bills build on DoorDash's longstanding safety work in New York, including efforts to support safer delivery, improve accountability on the road, and engage constructively with policymakers on solutions that protect Dashers and communities. DoorDash supported a 15mph speed limit for e-bikes in New York City and a total ban on two-wheeled devices exceeding 20mph. We're currently running a trade-in program to distribute 1,600 free, certified fire-safe e-bikes to NYC Dashers this year, pursuant to a new NYC law.

As New York continues to advance street safety legislation, DoorDash will keep working with lawmakers, advocates, and community partners to support policies that are practical, targeted, and focused on protecting everyone who shares the road.
