As part of the Warsaw Security Forum, held on September 29th and 30th, Minister of National Defence, Liviu-Ionuț Moșteanu, had a meeting with Marcos Perestrello, President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, during which priority topics on the Alliance's agenda were addressed.
The talks focused on the importance of consultations within NATO, as well as the launch of Eastern Sentry, an initiative aimed at strengthening the security of the Allied space from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea.
The Romanian official emphasized that Romania has made constant efforts at national level to strengthen defence, including in the field of judicial system, mentioning the completion of the legal and procedural framework for the course of action with regard to the drones and military manned aircraft that violate the national airspace.
At the same time, the decisions adopted by allied leaders at the 2025 The Hague NATO Summit were welcomed, through which member states committed to increasing their defence expenditures to 5% of GDP.
During the discussions, Minister of Defence reaffirmed Romania's firm support for Ukraine facing Russian aggression, as well as for the Republic of Moldova's European path. In this context, he appreciated the result of the recent parliamentary elections in Chisinau as a confirmation of the European orientation and stressed the importance of support for enhancing resilience and defence capabilities, essential for regional and European security.
The Romanian official also highlighted Romania's essential role in the Black Sea region and our country's substantial contribution to the consolidation of NATO's Eastern Flank. He stressed the strategic importance of the region for the stability of the entire Euro-Atlantic space and stated that the Black Sea is constantly on the Allied agenda, being a central point of discussions with respect to European security. In this context, he recalled that Romania had taken over, for the second half of this year, the command of MCM Black Sea - an initiative developed together with Bulgaria and Turkey.
Minister of Defence has further emphasized the importance of the NATO Battle Group Romania from Cincu, led by France, to which other allied states also contribute, as well as the relevance of "Dacian Fall 2025" Exercise, which is to take place this fall, in Romania. At the same time, he mentioned that our country is actively involved in ensuring the security and stability of the Eastern Flank, through significant contributions both to the Battle Groups Poland, Bulgaria and Slovakia, and to the enhanced Air Policing Missions conducted in the Baltic States.
