Community Survey Now Open for Elwert and Edy Road Realignment Feasibility Study

Media release

Posted August 21, 2026

Washington County, in partnership with the City of Sherwood, has launched an online open house and survey for the Elwert Road and Edy Road Realignment Feasibility Study.

Community members are encouraged to review proposed alignment alternatives and provide feedback now through September 6.

The Elwert Road corridor plays an important role in connecting residents, schools, and future development in Sherwood West. As the community grows, improvements are needed to address safety concerns, manage traffic, and protect natural resources including Chicken Creek and surrounding wetlands.

The feasibility study explores how potential realignments of Elwert and Edy roads could support planned growth in Sherwood West while considering environmental impacts and improving travel for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and emergency responders.

Alignments Under Review

The survey presents three potential alternatives for how Elwert and Edy roads could be improved in the future:

Alternative 1: Realignment with Roundabouts
Roads could be realigned to cross Chicken Creek at narrower points and include two new roundabouts as proposed in Sherwood West Concept Plan.

Alternative 2: Keep Existing Alignment and Add a Signalized Intersection
The existing roadway alignment would remain in place with a new signalized intersection at Elwert and Edy to improve traffic control.

Alternative 3: Keep Existing Alignment with Roundabouts Near Creek
The current alignment could be maintained while adding roundabouts on both sides of the creek near the existing intersection to improve traffic flow without major roadway shifts.

Each alternative has different potential benefits and challenges related to the project's goal areas of safety and livability, mobility and function, land use and environment, and feasibility.

Community Feedback

Community input gathered through the survey will help inform the final feasibility report to City of Sherwood and Washington County leaders to guide future decision-making on roadway design and long-term comprehensive planning in Sherwood West.

Visit the online open house and take the survey through September 6 to learn more about the alternatives and share your perspective.
