Medical Outreach Continues in Venezuela
Response to last month's devastating earthquakes in Venezuela continues, with medical aid from Direct Relief ongoing to the country. The organization has also supported multiple organizations with financial aid to strengthen immediate health services in the recovery phase.
One of those organizations is Medical Impact, a nonprofit that has deployed medical providers from Colombia and Mexico, who have been in Caracas to support health services. The organization has deployed medical brigades to earthquake-impacted areas and is connecting patients with care.
To date, Direct Relief's support for the Venezuela earthquake response has included four shipments totaling 45 pallets and 11.4 tons of medical aid and supplies, valued at $3.97 million, plus $300,000 in grants to four organizations.
Shipments have included or are expected to include medicines, medical backpacks, hygiene kits, PPE, water purification supplies, emergency nutritionals, and other requested resources for partners including Acción Solidaria, Fundación Wayuu Taya, and others, as well as regional distribution channels.
Expanding Fistula Care in Burkina Faso
Direct Relief provided pallets of medicines and medical consumables to Association Renaissance, or ARENA, a partner organization operating the Renaissance Medical Center in Burkina Faso.
The donation supports ARENA's work providing care to women living with obstetric fistula, helping them regain their health and reintegrate into their families and communities. Obstetric fistula is a childbirth injury that, left untreated, can lead to chronic health complications and social stigmatization for affected women.
"This donation represents much more than medical equipment. It will strengthen the capacity of our Renaissance Medical Center and continue our mission: to provide quality care to women suffering from obstetric fistula, so that they can regain their health, dignity, and place within their families and communities."
-ARENA
The contribution reflects Direct Relief's ongoing commitment to maternal health and expanding access to care for vulnerable women in Burkina Faso.
