Funding Empowers Communities to Prevent Terrorism, Secure Elections, Enhance Immigration Enforcement
WASHINGTON -- Today, FEMA published funding opportunities across seven preparedness grant programs, making more than $1.5 billion available to protect communities across the country from terrorism and other urgent threats. Through its preparedness grant programs, DHS and FEMA empower community leaders and infrastructure owners to take bold, proactive steps to strengthen their resilience. By strategically aligning funding with identified risk and core national security priorities, these grant programs contribute to a stronger and more secure nation.
"The Trump Administration has moved quickly to restore American strength at home and ensure the safety of the American people," said Robert Fenton, Senior Official Performing the Duties of the FEMA Administrator. "We will continue to push back against the threat of terrorism, strengthen critical infrastructure, and bolster community resilience across the country. The funding announced today is just one way that the Department is supporting state and local governments and aligning their efforts with national security priorities."
Today, FEMA made more than $1 billion available through its Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) funding opportunities. This program enables state, territorial, Tribal Nation and local governments to build local capacity to prevent, protect against and respond to acts of terrorism. HSGP includes three separate grant programs: the State Homeland Security Program (SHSP), the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) and Operation Stonegarden. Recipients of SHSP and UASI funding are expected to align projects along core national security priorities identified by the Secretary of Homeland Security. For FY 2026, those priorities include: improving coordination among law enforcement agencies, strengthening cybersecurity of critical infrastructure, protecting the integrity of American elections, supporting border security efforts and enhancing the protection of crowded spaces like concerts or parades. By identifying key national security priorities, DHS and FEMA ensure that every dollar spent is delivering real safety and security for all Americans.
In addition to the Homeland Security Grant Program, FEMA today also made more than $500 million available through six additional grant programs focused on protecting the American public from acts of terrorism:
