AUC Chairperson today received H.E. Akuei Bona Malwal, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan

The Chairperson of the AU Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, today received H.E. Akuei Bona Malwal, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan.

Discussions focused on the regional situation & the imperative of African-led, dialogue-based solutions. The Chairperson underscored the importance of the timely & full implementation of the R-ARCSS, including constitutional processes, elections, & national cohesion in South Sudan.

They also exchanged views on Abyei, emphasising the need for a durable & mutually acceptable resolution, as well as on the conflict in Sudan & its regional implications, calling for an urgent #ceasefire, cessation of hostilities, & a return to constitutional order.

The Chairperson commended South Sudan for its continued solidarity in hosting Sudanese refugees.

H.E. Akuei Bona Malwal thanked the Chairperson for his leadership role & his support towards peace & stability in the region, & in South Sudan.
