Rep. Mullin’s Statement on Supreme Court Ruling Upholding Birthright Citizenship

Washington, D.C. - The Supreme Court just reaffirmed one of our most fundamental constitutional principles: That anyone born in the United States is an American citizen. For more than 150 years, the 14th Amendment has guaranteedthat birthright citizenship is a constitutional right, not a privilege that can be revoked by a president.

Today's decision builds on the landmark case of San Francisco native, Wong Kim Ark, the son of Chinese immigrants, whose Supreme Court victory confirmed that birthright citizenship is protected by the Constitution.

Donald Trump's disgraceful and xenophobic attempt to undermine this right was a direct attack on our Constitution.

As we celebrate this decision, I will continue to defend the Constitution against the Administration's ongoing assault on the freedoms and democratic principles that define our country.
