As Super Typhoon Ragasa approaches Hong Kong, Hong Kong Observatory will issue the No. 8 signal at 2:20 pm today (23 September). CUHK will suspend all face-to-face classes and campus activities to ensure the safety of students and staff. The University has also informed all teaching staff that online teaching may be considered where appropriate and necessary under adverse weather conditions. Staff may also arrange remote work depending on the nature of their duties and needs. The University also urges all staff and students to return home or stay in safe location as soon as possible before the No. 8 signal is hoisted.
In preparation, CUHK has conducted inspections, cleaning, reinforcement, and maintenance of outdoor areas and building facilities to prevent and mitigate potential impacts on staff, students, and the campus. During adverse weather conditions, the University's Security Office will continue to maintain basic services under safe conditions to respond to emergencies on campus. For urgent assistance, please contact the Security Office Control Room at 3943-7999.
CUHK will closely monitor the situation and make timely arrangements and announcements as necessary. The University reminds all staff and students to stay safe and alert during adverse weather, avoid going out unless necessary, and pay close attention to the latest updates from the Hong Kong Observatory and the University.
